You thought that life has returned to normal for Kazuya? Think again! Everyone seems to be using Kazuya’s cramped apartment as their daily hangout, which is fittingly cramping his style, too. And just when it looked like Kazuya and May are finally going to get some peace and quiet, a mysterious package arrives at the door… promising to turn their world upside-down all over again!

Highs: More hilarity ensues; fun from beginning to end
Lows: Self-contained filler
Billed as the eleventh episode of the ten-episode Hand Maid May anime, Hand Maid May Special works well because it doesn’t try to be anything more than a raucous finale to its lovable predecessor. And by doing that it succeeds in spades.
Fans of the over-the-top, eccentric antics of the Cyberdoll crew will delight in the fact that this anime has taken things up another notch. I often times found myself caught up in the sheer, unrelenting energy that this anime exudes, which is aided by generous splashes of bright colors and exaggerated character movements.
Comedic timing is Hand Maid May‘s trademark, to which this OVA has just about mastered. I found myself laughing out loud more often than not, but what perhaps helped the overall experience was that the seiyuu cast has had ten episodes to finally get their characters right. Each emotion and voice inflection are leaps and bounds more convincing and suited this time around.
In the end, I left with a sizeable smile on my face. The conclusion was fittingly corny and heavy on the cheese, but I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Sure, nothing is really accomplished, which is the nature of filler, but the pure entertainment value of the Hand Maid May Special makes it worthwhile viewing.
